Easter Sunday

(For sure, this is how Easter was meant to be celebrated!)

인사동
Insadong

Insadong is considered to be the "traditional" neighborhood, so naturally there was a parade of people dressed in traditional clothes.  A similar parade happens in the Incheon International Airport (and pretty much anywhere else you find a concentration of tourists).

After watching a line of dudes strut by, looking good in traditional garb, it was super easy for us to talk Jessica into heading to a portrait studio to get her Korean on... The results were incredible!

Examples on the sandwich board out front

The rack of Hanbok (pronounced ham-bow), traditional clothes worn by Koreans on special occasions.  You may remember the photos of Judy in her Vice principal's Hanbok during a special day at her elementary school in Ulsan.  (Adventures in South Korea! Traditional Korean Attire)

Adjusting to get the perfect shot

The fur-lined, baby vest and purse are clearly new
(and smart) additions to the "traditional" look.

Scanned copies of the originals:

After the portrait studio, we stumbled upon a booth (really more of a shed) where you could pay an artist to do a caricature of you.  Naturally, we got in the queue to have our caricature drawn.

Being non-Korean, we caused quite a stir with the passerbys!

This man took so many photos of us

The final product:
Hey Andrew, why the long face?!

We all ended up looking really horse-like.  Jessica has the horse teeth, Andrew has the long horse snout and Judy got the mouth of a donkey.

Not politically correct at all (sorry):  Earlier that day, Judy was having shaking spasms in her arms, so Jess and Andrew were teasing her for having parkinson's.  After she was turned into a donkey, the name calling reached a whole new level.  The names that stuck for the day were:  'Donkey Park' and [the best] 'Donkey J. Fox.'  (We're terrible people, we know. ☹)

No need for commentary on this one!

Zoo Coffee

Waffles!  (basically the only food sold at a Korean cafe)

Playing in the mirror

Modeling

It almost looks like he's driving it in the cropped photo...

Piles of (as the Koreans say) D-D-O-N-G!

Killer poop face, Jess!

Aww, you almost can't tell the water is stagnant

Gazing Globe

A pre-dinner snack of crinkle fries and ships
(so as to not cause the safe problem!)

For dinner that night, we met Jessica's friend from Spain, Tosin, and had a spicy feast of baby octopus, but for some reason didn't get any pictures of it.

OMG!  Lisa Frank has upgraded from pencil cases!

Compensating for something, sir?!
