Cherry Blossom Festival

Like the rest of the northern hemisphere,  the beginning to middle of April marks the coming of spring and the blooming of the Japanese cherry blossoms in Korea.  A major difference here, is that Koreans are reluctant to admit/acknowledge the trees' Japanese origins, due to their sorted history with Japan.  Turning a blind eye to that aspect of the cherry blossoms, they still celebrate the blooming each year like most countries.

At Seoul's Cherry Blossom Festival, we discovered another cherry blossom related thing that Koreans have gotten wrong.  Generally (you'd think), a cherry blossom festival would be held in a park or an area with cherry blossoms.  Nope, not in Korea. The festival was held in a giant, paved park and the handful of cherry trees surrounding it either hadn't bloomed yet or had already shed their flowers.  It was really nice!

No clue what this character's from

Photo ops like these are pretty popular, and awesome!

This little guy was so cute.  Not only was he having the time of his life playing with those balloons, but he was dressed in a knit, lime green sweater suit!

Celebs

We're not sure what the cause was here.  We think we were just asked to take this photo because we're foreign.  Pretty standard.

Pretzel(ish) dog!

He felt like Britney Spears in the 'Lucky' video...

It's really a shame this lady was too distracted by her phone to notice Judy's performance art!

EARS!!!!

Koreans can be so adorable sometimes!

We waited in line for a while to get one these.  When we finally made it to the front, we noticed that he was keeping the ones on the grill moist by rubbing the raw chicken skewers on them...  So, we quietly stepped out of the line.

They looked so good though!

After the Cherry Blossom Festival, we headed to another neighborhood to meet our friends Jin and Heeji for a delicious Korean BBQ dinner and drinks.

Grilled pork goodness!

There were more cherry blossoms on this one tree than there were in the entire festival!

After dinner, we headed across the street to show them a really cool bar we had discovered a couple weeks before.

Group Shot!

Coke, Soju & Beer Bombs!

Cheers

This was definitely a direct result of the cola bombs, and a sign it was time to call it a night!

Heading home
