Sentosa Island

We decided to spend our last day in Singapore relaxing on the nearby island of Sentosa.  From what we'd read, there were beaches and resorts with pools available for our lounging and even a handful of delicious sounding restaurants to choose from.

Leave the city and head to an island resort to pass the day...sounds nice, doesn't it?  In print, Sentosa sounded great.  We even considered staying a few nights there, but once we arrived, we quickly realized that the descriptions we'd read were exaggerated and embellished, to say the least...

Amazing!

The Options:
Chicken Mushroom Pizza Sandwich

Pepperoni Pizza Mozarella Sandwich

Caution!  They're hot!

How on earth did the bread get toasted while part of the sandwich, in a bag, inside of a vending machine?!?  And it wasn't microwaved either, the bread was actually crunchy.  The two most logical conclusions we could come up with were that it was either magic, or there was a midget/elf working inside the machine toasting, assembling and bagging the sandwiches.  They were too legitimately delicious to have been pre-assembled and heated upon order.  Our minds were blown!

To reach Sentosa, you could walk on the boardwalk, drive on the causeway, take the subway or ride the cable car.  No description we read mentioned that the island was so close that it was connected by boardwalk, road or subway.  We discovered all these options on our way to catch the cable car.  With each step closer to the island, that 'island paradise getaway' image we had of the place faded faster and faster.

Ten minutes into exiting the cable car, we'd given up on that image of paradise we had and accepted where we actually were, a tourist trap.  Since we were already there, and it was so close, we decided to give it a shot anyway and see what we could find.  At the least, there would be some good photo ops.  Judy had read about a couple of resort restaurants that allowed access to their pool areas with the purchase of a meal, so we headed towards one of those.

On the way, we may have stopped and wasted some money on some terrible, touristy things...

Gogreen Segway Adventures

Struggling to find one that would fit the dome...

You had the option to pay for a picture that actually utilized the green screen behind us, but we decided that we'd already wasted enough money on this crappy segway adventure, so we didn't opt for that.  This photo is actually much more fitting!

Most awesome golf umbrella ever made!

How picturesque is that?!?

The latest line of swimwear from Islam...

Even though only a few days before we saw groups of Muslim girls playing at the beach and swimming while fully clothed and wearing head coverings, we were still shocked to witness this mother and daughter swimming and playing in the pool wearing full burqas.  We just kind of assumed that swimming in public fell into that category of things forbidden to them.  We were clearly wrong.  It was really incredible to watch this family play together in the pool.
