On the morning of our last day in Malacca, some shit hit the fan, so to speak, with some of D&T's coworkers, so while they were busy sorting things out we decided to get out of their hair and explore a little of the city on our own. As you'd guess, that simply meant going out in search of food!
The first place our bellies led us was back to our delicious friends at Brother John for breakfast...

After breakfast, we made our way to the mall to see what we could find, and bask in some air conditioning for a while.
On the second floor of this mall, we found another archery place! At least at the one we went to (which was across the street) there was a glass wall that separated the archery action from the shopping. Here, a stray arrow could easily find it's way out of the range and into the body of a shopper!
Are these doubled in America? Sick.

On Sundays, most people choose to have either breakfast or brunch, but not us. We did both! So, after Brother John's, and walking around the mall, we popped into a little cafe for a quick fried chicken sammy! The sauce was a little strange, and there were a few weird bits in the chicken, but overall pretty tasty.
On the way back to D&T's we stopped at Brother John (again) to pick up two coffees to take to them and they put them in bags!
At least 35% of all the cars in Malacca had VIP McDonald's Drive-Thru stickers on their windshields. We couldn't figure it out...

Sadly, they weren't as deliciously life-changing as The Alien, but they were still good, and just as cute as could be!
That afternoon, our plan was to take a ferry to a place called Turtle Island, and pass the rest of the day relaxing on an empty, remote beach. We thought it would be a perfect way for us to spend our last day and for them to unwind after the unexpected stress of the morning.
A roadside lunch
We weren't really sure how it worked. In the center of the makeshift tent was a table with all sorts of treats wrapped in banana leaves, waxed paper and even some in newspaper.
We just loaded a plate with some envelopes and packages, took them to a table and unwrapped them. Just like Christmas!

We even got fresh coconuts! The best part about this roadside tent was that the total for four people's lunch and 3 coconuts was around $4 USD! Malaysia is an incredible place...
We got turned around trying to get back on the road after lunch and pulled into a driveway to do an about face when we discovered this:

D&T weren't really sure where to catch the ferry, so we just headed in the general direction they thought it was and planned to ask for directions as we made our way. It seemed like a good idea, but for some reason all the people we tried asking knew of the island but couldn't help us. They all gave us conflicting answers and one guy with a sweet mustache just laughed at us and told us we needed a boat. After trying for a while, with no luck, we tossed out our Turtle Island idea, and decided to head back and take a duck tour instead!
